advice for struggling traders

1/

Liquidate alt coins from your trading, zero in on BTC, ETH. Pick something and narrow down your focus. Focus on a single coin until you’re sure you have an edge. Only then can you consider trading anything else.

2/

Remove trading apps off your phone. It never ends well, and just encourages you to execute in a shitty environment. Stick with execution from your main station and keep it at that.

3/

Start everyday with a plan, at a very minimum, you need to come into every trading day with an answer to; Where do you want to get involved? What do you want to see there? What do you NOT want to see there? It will become more complex than that as you progress and begin to add variables to the different strategies you build, but as a base you need to fundamentally know the answer to these questions. It will help with selectivity. Whilst also not making every move on the chart look like an advert.

4/

Risk a constant amount (to begin with), most common mistake I see is people varying risk early on. The basis behind varying risk size is that you know what has greater or less expectancy. Until you build up that knowledge stop randomly sizing each trade. It will skew your results heavily if you have no system behind it and will make finding out what works/doesn't work much harder.

5/

Reach out to other aspiring traders and collaborate with them (do not just join a paid group). Selectively reach out to people with similar interests/goals as yourself and start; holding each other accountable, generating new ideas, validate existing ideas. Top traders collaborate with each other not compete. As a trader it pays to have curious/skeptical thinking, and having others to discuss these ideas with is highly effective. Be sure to use the replies of this post article to find like minded ones to connect with.

6/

Keep your non-trading reliant income stream. It takes the pressure off having to make money and allows you to focus on the process of starting smaller and finding your edge. Financial pressure isn’t conducive of good trading.

7/

Use @Trader_Dante's demon finder to knock off weak points faster. Type it on online and you will find it. Still to this day I keep one present to stay aware of and knock off any negative habits I may pick up.

8/

Narrow down the hours you trade, allow yourself to only look for trades between 12pm - 4pm (example). It allows for more focused trading instead of a more general non focused approach across the entire day. I found this especially helpful when I went through a period of struggling to stick to my plan, as I had to follow the rules for a shorter duration of time.

9/

Trade less. Most common and easiest to spot pattern I've seen is overtrading. If you trade less you will likely make more money. Calculated time away from the charts is important. Spend more time refining your system, generating new ideas in groups, whatever it may be. Just spend less time looking to execute and more time refining your edge.

10/

Set a non PnL related goal at the start of every trading day. Do not change that goal until it becomes a habit. Example: If I take 2 losers in a row on a single day I stop trading (day stop). Until you have fully taken this on as a habit you keep it as a daily goal you focus on. Its an effective way to constantly be building on and picking up good new habits.

11/

Turn off your pnl, easiest change you can make, if you are using @InsilicoTrading turn on 'denial mode'. Prevents you from "trading your pnl" and from making unneeded decisions from your pnl constantly fluctuating. There is no positive not one from displaying the pnl live in front of you.
